As maintenance secretary of Rajputana hostel, I 1. made proper parking area with capacity of 160 motorcycles, 2. ensured regular cleaning of all washrooms including those of mess workers by institute cleaning staff and convinced administration for double shifts of cleaning staff from time to time, 3. ensured that 48 rooms which lacked furniture get it within one month of joining office, 4. started washing of lobbies by hostel staff, 5. established and maintained proper communication with institute administration, hostel wardens, staff, students and student representatives in the hostel executive committee (HEC) and ensured transparency in HEC's functioning by calling the general body for open discussions, 6. revised mess policies for the hostel and controlled extra charging by mess owners, 7. regulated servicing of water coolers and maintenance of water purifiers, replaced 2 old water coolers with new ones after rigorous discussions with college administration and brought down checking period from one month to one week, 8. went outside my line of work and deliberated with higher authorities for replacing old canteen with a new and far better one, one that is owned by the students of the institute themselves, 9. checked pest level by starting periodic spray of pesticides, 10. beautified hostel by best lawn maintenance of all the IIT hostels.

Worked to achieve below 2 objectives: 1st objective - To demineralize the nuclear reactor raw water using ion exchange resins (IXR) in different flow rates. - For that, firstly, I did an in-depth study of resins-their types, chemical structure, differences, capacity and other properties and drew a comparison between resins on the basis of their efficiency and usefulness in different set of conditions. - Secondly, I examined breakthrough curves of different cations and anions present in raw water of nuclear reactor along with their variation in different flow rates. - Finally, demineralization of water involved in various processes of nuclear reactor was performed using ion exchange resins (IXR). 2nd objective - To analyse if Ion Chromatography- an expensive process, is essential for water demineralization. - For that, firstly, I studied the functioning of ion-chromatograph and detailed working of its various components. - Secondly, I measured the conductivity of modelled nuclear raw water, and using it, found out the gross ionic content in column effluent. - Finally, a quantitative analysis by ion chromatography was also performed and the results were compared. On analyzing the results obtained from both approaches, we found they matched. Hence, we concluded that ion conductivity meter is sufficient to measure gross ionic content content throughout demineralization process and that ion chromatography was not required.
