Graduate Research Assistant
I was a PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech. My research aimed to build hybrid crowd-AI collaboration for generating simplified, biologically meaningful, mechanistic visualizations of biological networks. I was advised by Prof. T.M. Murali and Dr. Kurt Luther. As a research assistant, I have worked on following projects. 1. Flud: Flud, an online game with a purpose that leverages the combination of cognitive abilities of humans to observe patterns, and the computational accuracy of simulated annealing to draw graph layouts that can help scientists visualize and understand complex networks. During this project, I have learned how to design and run crowdsourcing experiments. 2. GraphSpace: GraphSpace is a web-based platform that fosters team science by allowing collaborating research groups to easily store, interact with, layout and share networks. Anyone can upload and share networks at http://graphspace.org. In addition, GraphSpace is an open source project and code is available at http://github.com/Murali-group/graphspace if a user wants to run his or her own server. During this project, I have learned how to work with large data sets. I have gained hands-on experience in technologies like Django, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Kibana, and Kafka during this project. 3. XTalkDB: XTalkDB is a carefully curated database that documents the scientific literature that supports crosstalk between pairs of pathways. The database also provides an easy-to-use interface for curators to add more crosstalk entries. The website is available at http://www.xtalkdb.org. I had the chance to apply my skills in technologies like NodeJS and MongoDB in this project.

venuemonk
Co Founder
During the summer of 2015, I picked up the challenge of building an online platform for booking event venues. I was part of a team of 4 people who started VenueMonk.com. I was responsible for the end to end development of VenueMonk.com from scratch. The current version still uses the 70% codebase I had written in 2015. This experience helped me gain insight into the operational side of software development as well.
2013 - 2015
paypal
Software Engineer 2
Worked as a part of Emerging initiatives group at Paypal India Development Center. Generated a lot of new ideas that resulted in 2 Patents applications during my stay in the team. Leveraged existing technologies to make the PayPal platform better for the developers. Developed prototypes for the valuable ideas and iterated through them to make full fledged scalable services. Some of the notable projects I have been a part of are mentioned below. 1. Marketplace Payouts: Implemented the Marketplace payouts solution in Mass Pay API. The solution allows an online marketplace to split payments received with sellers in the marketplace. This project was my first big scale project which made me realize the importance of unit testing, version control and other best practices of software engineering. 2. Artifacts Sharing Platform: Worked as a part of a team to develop a platform for sharing different types of artifacts present in a digital wallet. My responsibilities included mainly building a proof of concept mobile application and rest services for this platform. 3. Eclipse Plugin for PayPal Java Rest Service Developed a prototype for a helix plugin as a part of the PayPal productivity Hackathon . The plugin could automate various configuration tasks and reduced the development time by around 2000%. This emerged as a winner for the hackathon and we turned the same into a full fledged working solution.

Software Engineer Internship
Worked as an intern in Emerging initiatives group at Paypal India Development Center. Worked on a project called "PayPal-in-a-Box" , a light weight payment platform, which was optimized to run on low-level devices like Raspberry PI to process multi-store payments. I also developed a demo online store to showcase the functionality of PayPal-in-a-Box. At the end of the internship, I was awarded Best Intern at Intern ShowUP 2013 event for outstanding performance among a group of 20 interns.
2011 - 2011

Intern
I worked as an intern at Precision Tech Enterprises in Summer 2011. This was my first professional job. I had the opportunity to learn the product pipelines used by Precision Tech.
