Project Title: Inventory management (PAS) Technology : Java, Spring core, Spring boot, Microservices, Kafka streams, Restful web services, IBM MQs, Sybase database Language : Java (Primary), Python and Scala (Secondary) Environment : DEV – Windows, QA/UAT/PROD - UNIX Description: • Inventory management/PAS is the centralized system in Morgan Stanley’s Stock loan business to maintain the inventory information about all the stocks/securities available in the firm • This inventory information is used to lend/borrow securities to/from clients/institutions • Morgan Stanley act as a broker in this business where lender lends us the securities which we update in the inventory management system and then based on the availability it is borrowed by borrower. • Inventory management system receives all the raw trading information from upstream like cusip, account, quantity etc. and store that in cache and DB. • On receiving request from client application it calculates the current availability/positions (using the cached data) of the securities and responds back via SOAP/Rest endpoint. Successful implementation: • Built end to end streaming application using Kafka streams to replace the legacy SOAP/Rest endpoints. • Basically moved away from PULL based architecture i.e. client application pulling data on-demand to PUSH based architecture i.e. data being pushed to client application as soon as there is an update. • Hence reduced the overall latency due to complex calculation during client request by making it available locally to client applications as and when any update is received from upstream.
