Benjamin Han is a Principal Scientist of Knowledge Platform at the Apple AI/ML team, where he is envisioning the next generation of AI services infused with knowledge. He has over 17 years of experience in natural language and machine learning, having worked on many core problems across NLGPU, with applications in information extraction, knowledge graphs, conversational AI, summarization, question answering, and information analytics. Benjamin is a lifelong learner who is always curious about how humans and technologies work. He wants to create technologies that can help us not just think and act better, but be a better version of ourselves. Before joining Apple, he worked for Microsoft as a Principal Science Architect of Azure Cognitive Service for Language and Principal Science Manager of Azure Language Pillars (ALPS), where he led a science team dedicated to democratizing the state-of-the-art multilingual natural language research to serve customers at scale. Throughout his career, Benjamin has grown the usage of Azure Cognitive Service for Language many multiples over two years and claimed the first in offering summarization services among the top cloud providers. He has covered areas such as key phrase extraction, named entity recognition, entity linking, PII redaction, sentiment analysis, opinion mining, extractive summarization, abstractive summarization, language detection, text classification, text analytics for health, question answering, conversational language understanding, relation extraction, coreference resolution, and visual document understanding. Benjamin holds a PhD candidate (ABD) degree in Language Technologies and Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University, an MS degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University at Buffalo, and another MS degree in Electrical Engineering from National Sun Yat-Sen University, Taiwan. He is a research scientist with expertise in AI, ML, Azure, and senior software engineering. Benjamin is passionate about natural language and machine learning and is constantly exploring new ways to innovate and create technologies that can help us better understand and communicate with each other.
