Brian Vaughan is an experienced Engineering Manager with expertise in AI/ML, financial reporting and calculation systems, distributed/caching systems, web services, and functional programming. With over 16 years of relevant experience, he has worked with top companies such as Facebook and Goldman Sachs. Currently, Brian is working as an Engineering Manager at Facebook, where he leads the PyTorch team in AI Platform. He has also hired a TorchVision team and seeded work on a PyTorch Reinforcement Learning library during his two-year stint in London. Before joining Facebook, Brian worked as a Vice President of Market Risk Technology at Goldman Sachs. He managed a market risk development team using Spark/Hadoop, Scala, Java, and a proprietary internal language. His team was responsible for maintaining legacy software and developing a new market risk caching, aggregation, and reporting system. Brian has also worked as a Software Engineer at Novus Partners, where he helped develop and maintain their platform and backend software. His expertise in Scala was instrumental in helping hedge funds and fund-of-fund clients better understand their exposure, risk, attribution, and performance. Brian holds an International Executive MBA from Rutgers and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Math from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He also has a Mandarin Chinese language degree from Dalian University of Technology.
