Dinesh Chand is a software engineer with over 5 years of experience in the IT industry. He is currently working at Walmart Global Tech as a Software Engineer 3, where he is responsible for providing visualizations of data and tracking orders across pharmacy domains. He is passionate about technology and continuously strives to expand his technical horizons. Dinesh has experience working with systems at scale and distributed systems. He is particularly interested in working on big data technologies. He has worked on designing and implementing systems that process data from 5500 stores with 1.5 million transactions per day. During the first 6 months at Walmart, Dinesh worked as a data engineer. He wrote Spark jobs to fetch data from Hive on a regular interval using Oozie workflows and populate data to star schema in Azure SQL database used as OLAP db. He also designed the system and came up with a star schema approach among other possible choices. Dinesh has written optimized queries to fetch data from multiple partitions of Hive tables having petabytes of data. He has also analyzed various BI tools and helped in finalizing the tool for their use case keeping cost, choice of connectors, licensing, compliance, and various other factors in consideration. Currently, Dinesh is leading multiple development areas of a project that tracks the lifecycle of a pharmacy order across various domains with the help of Kafka events and provides an integrated view so that they can track the order at any stage. He led the POC for comparing the choice of streaming platforms among Kafka streams, Spark streaming, and Grodd (Walmart streaming platform) and helped in making the choice considering parameters like cost, complexity, processing capabilities, compliance, features, etc. He has helped in coming up with high and low-level designs for this system, finalizing data models, services, budgeting, cloud deployment choices, etc. Prior to Walmart, Dinesh worked at DellEMC as a Software Engineer 2, where he worked on the development of a new product that managed the lifecycle of vxblock and its various components. He also worked on the development of multiple microservices to process this system's components, create their relationships, and publish the models asynchronously to downstream systems. Dinesh has extensive experience working with microservice architecture, Java 8, REST services, and Spring Boot.
