Hoosein Safdari is a highly experienced Search Engineer with almost 9 years of relevant experience in the industry. He is currently working as a Software Engineer at Zalando, where he is responsible for developing and improving the search functionality of the platform. Prior to this, he worked as a Technical Lead at Myntra, where he led the search team and was involved in designing and implementing various search-related features. During his time at Myntra, Hoosein was instrumental in creating a Myntra specific Fashion Ontology Graph from scraped data of fashion sites and in-session user data primarily to address External Brand queries. He also led the design and implementation of a 4-month long project of integration of query understanding based banner ads in Myntra's Search/List Page, which increased the site revenue aside from the expected Ad revenue. Hoosein has also worked on various other features like nested suggestions in autosuggest, search cohort sort integration, user personalisation revamp, and optimizations in the autosuggest pipeline (5x reduction in daily runtime). He has reduced Search response times 95th by 50%, by implementing deep StatsD instrumentation of 40+ slow calls. In his previous role at Myntra, Hoosein was a Senior Software Engineer in the Search Relevance Team, where he worked on developing new features within the Semantic Flow viz Multi-Lingual Support, Scaling of Intent Classification, Search Filter Personalisation. He was also responsible for maintaining semantic layers of spell check, synonym, intent classification & related search suggestions. He worked on improving the auto-complete service by redesigning the indexing pipeline with rich features like real-time updates, contextual suggestions, hierarchical suggestions, personalisation & diversity. Hoosein holds a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar. He also completed his High School education from S.I.C.A.
