Karthik Ranganathan is an accomplished technologist with over two decades of experience in the software industry. He is currently the Founder and CTO at YugaByte, a company that provides an open-source distributed SQL database for global transactions and real-time analytics. Karthik's expertise lies in building scalable and reliable distributed systems, which he has honed over the years working at some of the biggest names in the tech industry. Prior to founding YugaByte, he worked as a Member of Technical Staff at Nutanix, a cloud computing company, where he was responsible for designing and implementing distributed systems for the company's flagship product. Before Nutanix, Karthik spent several years at Facebook, where he worked on a diverse set of challenging problems at scale. As a Technical Lead, he was instrumental in making HBase a reliable, zero-data loss store and helped out a number of use cases to leverage HBase such as Facebook Messages, Search Indexing, Hive, a generic Key Value Store, etc. He also built Cassandra along with some folks for Facebook Inbox Search and looked into improving the end-to-end performance of search (including rendering on the browser), and helped improve time to user interaction quite a bit. Karthik holds a B.Tech in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He is a seasoned software engineer with expertise in search, Cassandra, Apache Hive, and other relevant technologies. As the Founder and CTO at YugaByte, Karthik is responsible for driving the company's technical vision and strategy.
