Let's explore why this happens, using examples from large language models (LLMs) like GPT-4 or Claude. 😒 How Do LLMs Search for Answers and Why Do They Lie? Large language models are similar to T9, the predictive text function on smartphones. However, unlike T9, LLMs learn from vast amounts of data and consider the entire context of the text. While LLMs can construct grammatically correct sentences, they lack an understanding of the meaning of their output. In essence, LLMs know how to write but don't comprehend what they write. Over-extraction of groundwater has drastically dropped water levels, with nearly 85% of the city's supply dependent on this unsustainable practice. The number of lakes has fallen from over 400 to fewer than 200 due to encroachments and pollution. The outdated water distribution system and lack of rationing result in a 49% loss through leaks. Groundwater levels have plummeted to 800 feet, and access to piped lines has dropped to 70% even in a city as large as Bengaluru. These issues highlight the urgent need for reforms in water management and infrastructure. Attached data shows the sources, usages, and leakage percentages for Bengaluru compared to the year 2000. Twenty-one major cities, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad, are projected to run out of groundwater soon, according to World Resources Institute estimates. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐒𝐚𝐲? • 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Per capita water availability has plummeted from 1,816 cubic meters in 2001 to 1,545 cubic meters in 2011, with projections indicating a drop to 1,341 cubic meters by 2025 (Central Water Commission). • 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫: Around 70% of India's water is contaminated, placing India 120th out of 122 countries in the water quality index (Jal Shakti Ministry). • 𝐃𝐚𝐲-𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐒𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐬: Nearly 100 million people are on the brink of facing day-zero scenarios, where the water supply is almost depleted (Jal Shakti Ministry). 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬? Rapid urbanisation, poor water management, and lack of community participation are significant contributors to the water crisis in urban areas. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐁𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐞? Our main target is the world's largest intercollegiate design competition, BAJA SAE. Founded in 2009, KNOX has established a team of 50 students who work round the clock to enumerate various innovations in the ATV. Finally, the day has come when we have to bid them farewell. However, even after saying goodbye, they will always stay connected with us, inspiring, motivating, and guiding us in the right direction. It’s heartbreaking when our seniors, who felt like family members, say goodbye to us. There are some things we will always draw inspiration from them. Firstly, their passion: After COVID, everything slowed down, but their passion was something extraordinary. Because of this passion, after 2021, our ATV was ready again in 2024, and we participated in BAJA. Second is their consistency. Even during their placement year, their level of consistency was unmatched. The work never stopped, and they managed the team alongside their tasks. This was truly inspirational for us. Last but not least , their behaviour: All the seniors were like a family to us, always behaving kindly. They corrected our mistakes when we made them. Words fall short to describe them. On this World Environment Day, TEAM KNOx IIT Roorkee is proud to highlight our transition from traditional fuel-powered ATVs to eco-friendly electric ATVs, addressing the urgent need to combat pollution. The Environmental Challenge Before 2019, our ATVs, like millions worldwide, contributed significantly to pollution. A study by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows that non-road gasoline engines, including ATVs, can emit 20-30 grams of CO per hour of use, leading to around 2,500 tons of CO emissions annually from just 1 million fuel ATVs. Our Eco-Friendly Solution: Recognizing this environmental impact, TEAM KNOx made the bold decision to shift to electric ATVs in 2023. These electric vehicles offer numerous advantages: 1. Environmentally Friendly - Zero emissions, significantly reducing air pollution and our carbon footprint. 2. Lower Operating Costs - Cheaper electricity compared to gasoline and reduced maintenance expenses due to fewer moving parts. 3. Essential Precautions for Safe ATV Driving All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) may suggest they can handle any terrain, but in reality, they come with significant risks. While these machines are often associated with fun and adventure, it's crucial not to underestimate the dangers involved. Every year, 135,000 people are injured in ATV accidents globally, and over 700 fatalities occur. Unfortunately, many of these accidents stem from common factors such as improper hill climbing, defective parts, and, most importantly, loss of balance and control. As part of our commitment to safety, our club TEAM KNOx adheres to the following key precautions to ensure we are responsible and safe drivers: 1 . Physical Fitness and Health •⁠ ⁠Fitness: Maintaining a high level of physical fitness is essential, as ATV driving can be physically demanding. •⁠ ⁠Health Check-ups: Regular health check-ups are scheduled to ensure drivers are fit to handle the rigors of professional driving. 2. Vehicle Maintenance and Technical Knowledge •⁠ ⁠Mechanical Knowledge: Members learn the basics of ATV mechanics to perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues. •⁠ ⁠Upkeep: Vehicles are kept in top condition through regular maintenance checks and necessary repairs. 3.
