His recent paper, published in the prestigious Coordination Chemistry Reviews (Impact Factor: 20.8), explores advancements in Platinum (Pt)-based electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in hydrogen fuel cells. Platinum is the most efficient catalyst for ORR, yet its high cost and limited availability pose challenges. SRM University-AP is proud to announce a groundbreaking advancement in environmental monitoring and public health by Dr Dr. Rajapandiyan Panneerselvam and Dr Anil Suresh from the Departments of Chemistry and Biological Sciences, along with research scholars Ms Jayasree Kumar and Ms arunima jinachandran . Their innovative research, titled "Ag nanoparticle-embedded fish scales as SERS substrates for sensitive detection of forever chemical in real samples," has been published in the journal Applied Surface Science. This study introduces a novel approach to detect harmful pollutants, specifically Perfluorooctane sulfonamide (PFOSA), in human urine, soil, and water. By utilising Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) with silver nanoparticle-embedded fish scales as substrates, the team has developed a cost-effective, eco-friendly, and highly sensitive method for identifying these persistent environmental contaminants. This advancement holds significant potential for on-site environmental and food safety analysis using portable instruments, aiding industries in adhering to regulatory standards and protecting public health. Dr Dr. Jaidev Kaushik , Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at SRM University-AP, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone in green chemistry with his latest research paper titled “Green Light Promoted Photoreduction of Carbonate to Acetic Acid by Zinc Ash-Derived ZCu@ZnO”, published in the prestigious ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering (IF 7.1). His study unveils an innovative process to convert carbonates into acetic acid—a critical industrial chemical—using green light and a catalyst derived from zinc ash, a waste product from galvanisation. This eco-friendly approach showcases the dual benefit of recycling industrial waste while adopting sustainable chemical production methods.
