Sofien Bouaziz is a highly accomplished Research Scientist with expertise in Machine Learning/Deep Learning, Computer Vision, and Computer Graphics. He is currently the Head of XR Presence at meta, where he leads the development of human understanding technologies that power key products in AR and VR, enabling experiences for Remote Presence and Sharing. Sofien has an impressive track record of success in the tech industry, having previously held senior positions at Google and Apple. At Google, he led and managed a large perception team working on cutting-edge AR research and development. His team developed state-of-the-art technologies for scene and human reconstruction/understanding, and published at world top conferences. They shipped multiple successful technologies, including depth reconstruction for the Pixel 4 depth sensor, ARCore depth API, Pixel 5 portrait relighting, and TensorFlow Graphics. At Apple, Sofien designed, developed, and productized the real-time face tracking algorithm powering the iPhone X Animojis and also available to third-party developers through ARKit. He was working on multiple high-impact cross-functional projects. Sofien holds a PhD in Computer Science from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, where he also earned a Master's degree in Computer Science.
