Urvish Desai is a Senior Software Engineer at TikTok, with a focus on Core Systems and Machine Learning. He has over 3 years of relevant experience, having worked as a Software Developer 2 at Oracle in the Recovery & High Availability group. Urvish is a highly accomplished individual, having completed his 2nd Master’s at NYU Courant in Computer Science with a 3.95 GPA. Prior to this, he graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad, with a major in Mathematics and Computing. Urvish has a passion for solving real-world problems using Computer Science and Math. He is a specialist in Core Systems and Machine Learning, and has completed multiple projects in these areas. He has also published a paper at IEEE ICASSP 2018 in speech and video synthesis, with former work at IISc Bangalore as a Research Engineer Intern. Currently, Urvish is working as a Research Engineer Intern at the Indian Institute of Science. Here, he has devised a novel algorithm for synthesis of articulatory MRI videos (vocal tract) for any given word based on Dynamic programming with intensive image / video processing for boundary stitching and interpolation of video frame sequences. He has also performed development in MATLAB with modularization using the Image Processing Toolbox, Matplotlib and other libraries for superimposition, vectorization, correction of image orientation & resolution, audio sampling, and frame matching. Urvish has obtained phonetic transcriptions of audio by forced alignment using Kaldi Speech Recognition toolkit (Deep Neural Networks). Additionally, he has developed a MATLAB GUI application for testing and subjective evaluation of resulting videos gaining an overall score of 3.78/5. In addition to his work experience, Urvish has also worked as an Academic Tutor at New York University, teaching Basic Algorithms and Intro to Programming. He has a strong educational background, having completed his Master of Science in Computer Science from New York University, his Integrated M.Tech in Mathematics and Computing from IIT Dhanbad, and his Undergraduate Mobility Scholar in Informatics and Computing from Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto.
