What this is

Honest feedback is rare. Funny honest feedback is rarer.

Roast My Resume is a free AI tool by Weekday that reads your resume and gives you brutally honest, specific, often funny feedback on what is wrong with it, then offers concrete fixes. Pick from three heat levels: light singe, medium roast, or well done. According to the 2018 Ladders eye-tracking study, recruiters spend just 7.4 seconds on the average resume, which means the difference between getting screened in or out is usually 3 to 5 specific lines a kind reviewer would never tell you to fix. Your friends will tell you your resume looks great. Career coaches will say it needs work but be vague about what. This is for everyone in between.

The roast is based on the same patterns we see screening thousands of resumes a week on Weekday. Then, if you want, the same AI gives you the fix. Choose your heat level, paste your resume, brace yourself.

How it works

Three steps. No login.

1

Paste your resume

Plain text works fine. The more we see, the better the roast.

2

Pick a heat level

Light singe is kind. Medium roast is honest. Well done is brutal. You decide.

3

Optional: get fixes alongside the roast

Same AI, constructive mode. Roast first, fixes second.

Pro tips

Tips & tricks for best results

Use this before the polish, not after

If you've spent 6 hours on your resume already, this tool will hurt. Use it earlier in the process when changes are still cheap.

Share the roast, fix the resume

Half the value is comedy. The other half is the diagnosis. Screenshot the roast, then quietly fix the issues.

Run it twice with different heat levels

Light singe surfaces the high-priority issues nicely. Well done surfaces the things nobody else will tell you. Both are useful.

Don't input your home address or sensitive personal info

Strip out anything personal before pasting. The AI doesn't need it to roast you.

Compare two versions side by side

Run your current resume and a revised version. The roast usually gets shorter and softer on a good rewrite, which is a useful signal.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the roast actually useful or just funny?

Both, by design. The humour exists to make you keep reading. Underneath the jokes, every line points at a specific issue: weak verbs, missing metrics, generic objective statements, formatting problems, gaps, buzzword density. If you read the roast carefully, you have a free, prioritised list of fixes.

Will the roast hurt my feelings?

Probably a little. That is the point. We capped the maximum heat at firm but fair rather than cruel. Pick light singe if you want it gentle, well done if you want it real.

Is this safe? Will my resume be stored?

Your input is sent to our AI provider to generate the roast and is not stored against your identity or sold. Strip out personal info (address, phone) before pasting if you want extra privacy. We never need it for the roast.

Why does the AI suggest specific fixes after the roast?

Because feedback without action is just trolling. After the roast, the same AI switches into constructive mode and gives you a short list of fixes ranked by impact. You can turn this off if you only want the roast.

Can I use this for cover letters too?

It is built for resumes but it does an OK job on cover letters in a pinch. For a proper cover letter rewrite, use our resume bullet rewriter or a dedicated cover letter tool.

Why is this free?

Weekday is a recruiting platform. We make money helping companies hire, not from job seekers. Tools like this are how we get more candidates onto the platform. Better resumes also mean better matches for our hiring partners, which is good for everyone.

How is this different from a normal resume review?

A normal resume review is paid, slow, polite, and broad. This is free, instant, opinionated, and specific. Different vibes for different moments.

Can the roast be too harsh?

Yes if you pick well done. That setting is calibrated for people who explicitly want zero-mercy feedback. If you are sensitive about feedback, use light singe.
