How the notice period calculator works
Count the days, take out adjusted leave, and price whatever is left.
Last working day
Resignation date + notice days − 1 (when day 1 is the day you resign). 13 Oct + 90 days = 10 Jan
Leave adjustment
If your company allows it, each earned leave you adjust brings your last day one day earlier. 10 Jan − 10 leaves = 31 Dec
Buyout cost
Monthly basic or gross ÷ 30 × days you do not serve. ₹80,000 ÷ 30 × 60 = ₹1,60,000

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my last working day?
Add your notice period to your resignation date. If the day you resign counts as day 1, subtract one day. Example: resigning on 13 Oct with 90 days notice gives a last working day of 10 Jan.
How is notice period buyout calculated?
Buyout = monthly pay ÷ 30 × days you do not serve. Most companies use basic pay, some use gross pay. Example: ₹60,000 basic and 45 days left = ₹90,000.
Can my company refuse a buyout?
Yes. A buyout is usually at the company's discretion, even if your offer letter mentions it. Get the approval in writing before you plan your joining date.
Can I adjust leave against my notice period?
Only if your company policy allows it. Many companies let you adjust earned leave, but not sick or casual leave.
Will my new employer pay my notice buyout?
Many do, especially for hard-to-fill roles. Ask for it during the offer stage. If they pay it, it is usually added to your taxable salary.
Does the notice period count for gratuity?
Yes. Your service runs till your last working day, so serving notice can take you past 5 years. Check it with the gratuity calculator.
