Infosys is one of the biggest fresher recruiters in India, and its process is very predictable. You take one online test. Your score (and the drive you applied for) decides the role. Then you face one technical round and one HR round, sometimes merged into one.
This guide covers the Infosys hiring process, the three main fresher roles, and 36 commonly asked Infosys interview questions with short answers.
Infosys hiring process at a glance
- Apply through your college, the Infosys careers portal, or an off-campus drive.
- Online test: reasoning, maths, verbal, pseudocode and puzzles. Specialist roles add coding.
- Technical interview: one language, OOP, DBMS, your project. Expect a pseudocode or output question.
- HR interview: relocation, shifts, why Infosys, documents. Often combined with the technical round.
- Offer and Mysore training: most freshers start with foundation training at the Infosys Global Education Centre in Mysuru.
Infosys roles for freshers
- Systems Engineer (SE), approx. ₹3.6 – 4.2 LPA: the mass-hiring role. Clear the online test and one interview.
- Digital Specialist Engineer (DSE), approx. ₹6.25 LPA: needs stronger coding in the test plus a deeper technical round.
- Specialist Programmer (SP), approx. ₹9.5 LPA and above: the top track, usually through HackWithInfy or a dedicated coding test. Reported packages go much higher at senior SP levels.
Numbers change by drive, so always check the offer details on the Infosys careers portal.
Common eligibility: 60% (or 6.0 CGPA) in 10th, 12th and graduation, and no active backlogs at the time of selection.
Infosys online test: what to expect
- Reasoning ability: puzzles, seating arrangement, data sufficiency, coding-decoding.
- Mathematical ability: percentages, ratios, probability, permutations, time and work.
- Verbal ability: reading comprehension, sentence correction, para jumbles.
- Pseudocode: read a short program and predict the output.
- Puzzle solving: a short logic-heavy section.
- Coding (DSE / SP): usually 3 problems of increasing difficulty, with DSA topics like arrays, strings, DP and greedy.
Infosys reasoning is known to be harder than most service companies. Spend extra time on puzzles and data sufficiency.
Infosys aptitude and reasoning questions (examples)
- The ratio of boys to girls in a class is 3:2. If there are 30 students, how many are girls?
2/5 × 30 = 12 girls. - A bag has 4 red and 6 blue balls. What is the probability of drawing a red ball?
4/10 = 2/5. - In how many ways can the letters of the word CODE be arranged?
4! = 24. - Data sufficiency: is x > y? (1) x − y = 5 (2) x + y = 10.
Statement 1 alone is enough, because x − y = 5 means x is greater. - Five people sit in a row. A is to the left of B, and C is at one end. Who can be in the middle?
Practise drawing a quick diagram. Most Infosys seating puzzles are solved by elimination.
Infosys pseudocode questions (examples)
- What does this print?
x = 5; for i = 1 to 3: x = x + i; print x
5 + 1 + 2 + 3 = 11. - What does this print?
a = 10; b = 3; print a mod b + a / b(integer division)
1 + 3 = 4. - A loop runs from i = 0 while i < 10, with i = i + 3. How many times does it run?
i = 0, 3, 6, 9, so 4 times.
Tip: Trace pseudocode on paper, line by line. Most mistakes come from rushing through loop conditions.
Infosys technical interview questions
Infosys interviewers usually start with "Tell me about your project" and move into whatever language you mention. Java and Python are the most common.
Programming and OOP
- What is a class and an object?
A class is a blueprint. An object is an instance created from it. - What is inheritance? Name its types.
One class acquiring properties of another. The types are single, multilevel, hierarchical, multiple (through interfaces in Java) and hybrid. - What is the difference between an abstract class and an interface?
An abstract class can have both implemented and abstract methods. An interface defines a contract (in modern Java it can also have default methods). - What is a constructor?
A special method that runs when an object is created, used to initialise it. - What is the difference between static and non-static members?
Static members belong to the class and are shared. Non-static members belong to each object. - What is garbage collection in Java?
Automatic removal of objects that are no longer referenced, freeing memory. - What is a lambda function in Python?
A small anonymous function, for examplelambda x: x * 2.
Data structures
- What is the difference between a stack and a queue?
A stack is LIFO (last in, first out). A queue is FIFO (first in, first out). - What is a binary search tree?
A tree where the left child is smaller and the right child is larger than the parent. - What is the time complexity of binary search?
O(log n). It only works on sorted data. - What is hashing?
Mapping data to a fixed-size value (hash) for fast lookup, as in a HashMap or dictionary.
DBMS and SQL
- What is a view?
A virtual table based on the result of a query. - What is an index?
A structure that speeds up searches on a column, at the cost of slower writes. - What is the difference between WHERE and HAVING?
WHERE filters rows before grouping. HAVING filters groups after GROUP BY. - Write a query to count employees in each department.
SELECT dept, COUNT(*) FROM employee GROUP BY dept;
Infosys coding questions
- Check whether a number is an Armstrong number.
- Find the sum of digits of a number.
- Check whether two strings are anagrams.
- Find the frequency of each character in a string.
- Rotate an array by k positions.
- Find the longest substring without repeating characters (SP level).
- Count the ways to climb n stairs taking 1 or 2 steps at a time (DP, SP level).
Infosys HR interview questions
- Tell me about yourself.
Education, one strong project, your skills, and why IT services. Keep it to about 90 seconds. - Why Infosys?
Mention the Mysore training program, global clients and the learning culture. Be specific. - Are you willing to relocate?
Infosys expects flexibility on location. Say yes clearly. - Are you comfortable with shifts?
Some projects support clients in other time zones. Answer positively. - What do you know about Infosys?
Founded in 1981, headquartered in Bengaluru, one of India's largest IT services companies. Read the latest annual highlights before the interview. - What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Pick one real weakness and explain what you are doing to fix it.
