Amazon Layoffs 2026: India Job Cuts, Timeline and Is Amazon Still Hiring?

Amazon Layoffs 2026

Last updated: 27 October 2026

Amazon has cut about 30,000 corporate jobs since October 2025, its largest corporate layoffs ever. At the same time it is putting billions more into India and hiring for AI and cloud roles. Both things are true at once, and that matters if you are job hunting.

The short version: Amazon cut about 14,000 corporate roles in October 2025 and about 16,000 more in January 2026. A smaller round of fewer than 1,000 roles followed in October 2026. India was affected each time, with reported cuts of 100 to 1,500 per round. Amazon is still hiring in India and has committed about $48 billion to its Indian businesses for 2026 to 2030.

What it means for India

India cuts have hit corporate and tech teams rather than warehouse or delivery roles. Reported figures:

Is Amazon still hiring?

Yes. In June 2026 Amazon announced an extra $13 billion for AI and cloud in India through 2030, part of about $48 billion across its Indian businesses for 2026 to 2030. It opened a new campus in Bengaluru and keeps hiring in AI and cloud. Its global headcount was 1,595,000 at the end of June 2026, higher than a year earlier.

So the jobs are shifting rather than disappearing: fewer layers of corporate management, more AI and AWS roles. If you are applying, see our Amazon interview questions guide.
