Every breach in the news is another reason Indian companies are hiring security people, and most of them can't find enough. That shortage shows up clearly in pay once you have a few years of experience.
The catch is that cyber security is not one job. A SOC analyst watching alerts and a security architect designing a bank's defences are on very different salaries. Here is how it breaks down.
Quick answer
- Typical salary: ₹5–9 LPA for analysts (Glassdoor India average base pay for cyber security analysts is about ₹5 LPA)
- Fresher: ₹4–7 LPA
- Mid-level (3–6 years): ₹8–15 LPA
- Senior and architect roles: ₹20–45 LPA; CISOs ₹40 LPA–₹1 Cr+
- Biggest pay lever: Moving from monitoring (SOC) to engineering: cloud security, pentesting, architecture
Cyber Security salary by experience
Security pay starts modestly and then climbs fast, because experienced people are scarce:
- Fresher (0–2 years): ₹4–7 LPA
- Mid-level (3–6 years): ₹8–15 LPA
- Senior (7+ years): ₹20–40 LPA
- Leadership (security manager, architect, CISO): ₹30 LPA–₹1 Cr+
Glassdoor's title data shows the same climb: Information Security Analyst ₹4–9 LPA, Senior Information Security Analyst ₹8–15 LPA and Principal ₹24–26 LPA.
Cyber Security salary by city
Security hiring is concentrated in cities with large BFSI, GCC and consulting presence. For a security engineer with 3–5 years of experience, rough ranges are:
- Bangalore: ₹12–20 LPA
- Hyderabad: ₹11–18 LPA
- Delhi NCR: ₹11–18 LPA
- Mumbai: ₹11–18 LPA (strong BFSI demand)
- Pune: ₹10–16 LPA
- Chennai: ₹9–15 LPA
Cyber Security salary by company type
Who is hiring makes a big difference:
- IT services and managed security providers: Freshers ₹3.5–5 LPA; lots of SOC roles, good for learning
- Big 4 and consulting (EY, Deloitte, KPMG, PwC): ₹5–9 LPA for freshers; strong in audit, GRC and advisory
- Banks, fintech and GCCs: Among the best payers; ₹15–30 LPA at 4–6 years
- Product companies: Security engineers at ₹18–40 LPA at mid level

Skills that push your salary up
Certifications matter more in security than in most tech fields, but only alongside hands-on skill:
- Networking and Linux fundamentals: the base everything else sits on.
- Cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP): the biggest pay premium right now.
- Certifications: CompTIA Security+ or CEH to start, OSCP for pentesting, CISSP or CISM for senior and management roles.
- Scripting in Python or Bash to automate investigations.
- SIEM tools such as Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel or QRadar for SOC roles.
- Compliance knowledge (ISO 27001, SOC 2, RBI guidelines) for BFSI and GRC roles.
CTC vs in-hand: what you actually take home
Offer letters quote CTC, but your bank account sees something smaller. Take a cyber security analyst offer of ₹6 LPA with no variable pay. If PF is calculated on a basic of 50% of CTC, your monthly in-hand is roughly ₹44,000. If your company caps PF at ₹1,800 a month (many do), it is closer to ₹46,000.
Under the new tax regime, salaried people with taxable income up to ₹12.75 lakh (after the ₹75,000 standard deduction) pay no income tax, so at this level PF and professional tax are the main deductions. Variable pay, insurance and gratuity can lower the monthly number further. Our guide on CTC vs in-hand salary walks through a full payslip.
How to grow your cyber security salary
- Start in a SOC if you're a fresher. It's the most common entry point and teaches you how attacks look in real life.
- Specialise by year 2–3: pentesting, cloud security or detection engineering.
- Add one serious certification that matches your specialisation (for example OSCP or a cloud security cert).
- Move to BFSI, a GCC or a product company for the bigger jumps.

How we put these numbers together
Figures are approximate annual CTC in Indian rupees (LPA = lakh per annum) as of October 2026. We combined employee-reported salaries from Glassdoor India with 2025–26 hiring data published by Instahyre and Hyring, and cross-checked them against published industry salary guides. Where sources disagreed, we show a range instead of one number. Actual offers depend on the company, your interview performance and how well you negotiate.
