For years, the job search has had two kinds of helpers. Job boards show you openings and leave the rest to you. Recruiters work hard, but they are paid by the company, so they work on the company's roles.
AI career agents are a third kind. They are software that works on your side: they learn what you want, look for openings or people, and do some of the legwork for you. Here is what that means in practice, with examples.

What an AI career agent actually does
Different products focus on different jobs. Most do one or two of these well:
- Finds and applies to jobs. You share your role, skills, city and pay, and it applies to matching openings. Example: Day, Weekday's free AI job agent does this on WhatsApp and applies only when you say yes.
- Represents you. It builds a profile from a conversation and presents you to hiring managers. Profound, a Bengaluru startup, calls this an "AI Rep".
- Makes introductions. It connects you with people who can help: hiring managers, peers, mentors. Boardy calls itself an "AI superconnector" and introduces people only when both sides agree.
- Coaches you. Resume feedback, mock interviews and career questions.
A simple example
Priya is a QA engineer in Pune with 3 years of experience. She wants an automation testing role at a product company, hybrid, around ₹12 LPA.
On a job board, she searches "automation testing Pune" every evening, filters 200 results and fills a form for each. With an AI job agent, she says it once: "QA automation, Selenium and Java, 3 years, Pune or remote, 12 LPA." The agent sends her a short list of matches, and she replies "apply" to the ones she likes.
If she also wants to talk to someone who moved from services QA into a product company, a connector-style agent could look for that person and ask if they are open to a chat.

- When you have little time. Working people can't search every day; an agent can.
- When you apply to many similar roles. One good profile is reused instead of 40 forms.
- When you don't know who to ask. Connector tools can find people in your domain you wouldn't find alone.
Where they don't help (yet)
- They can't fix a weak profile. If your resume doesn't show results, no agent can hide that. Run it through a free ATS resume check first.

How to choose one
- Check what it does for you: jobs, intros, coaching, or all three.

- Check control: does it ask before applying or introducing you?
