Data analyst is one of the most popular ways into tech in India, and for good reason. You don't need a CS degree, the tools can be learned in months, and almost every company needs someone who can turn data into decisions.
The flip side is that starting pay varies a lot. Here is what data analysts really earn in 2026 and what separates a ₹4 LPA offer from a ₹12 LPA one.
Quick answer
- Typical salary: ₹6–9 LPA (Glassdoor India average base pay is about ₹8 LPA)
- Fresher: ₹3.5–6 LPA
- Senior (7–10 years): ₹15–25 LPA
- Highest-paying cities: Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune
- Biggest pay lever: Strong SQL plus one BI tool, and moving into a product company or GCC
Data Analyst salary by experience
Pay grows steadily with experience, and the jump from analyst to senior analyst is the one most people feel first:
- Fresher (0–2 years): ₹3.5–6 LPA
- Early career (2–4 years): ₹6–10 LPA
- Mid-level (4–7 years): ₹8–15 LPA
- Senior (7–10 years): ₹15–25 LPA
- Lead / analytics manager (10+ years): ₹25–35 LPA+
Glassdoor's title data lines up: Data Analyst ₹5–10 LPA, Senior Data Analyst ₹9–20 LPA and Analytics Manager ₹12–23 LPA.
Data Analyst salary by city
Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune sit at the top of each experience band, with Delhi NCR and Mumbai close behind. Tier-2 cities such as Jaipur, Indore, Chandigarh and Coimbatore typically pay 15–25% less for the same experience.
Approximate ranges for a data analyst with 2–4 years of experience:
- Bangalore: ₹8–12 LPA
- Hyderabad: ₹7–11 LPA
- Pune: ₹7–11 LPA
- Delhi NCR: ₹7–10 LPA
- Mumbai: ₹7–10 LPA
- Chennai: ₹6–9 LPA
- Tier-2 cities: ₹5–8 LPA
Data Analyst salary by company type
The employer matters as much as the title:
- IT services and BPO analytics: ₹3.5–5 LPA for freshers; slower growth
- Consulting (Deloitte, Accenture, EY): ₹5–9 LPA for freshers, with structured promotions
- Product companies and startups: ₹6–12 LPA for freshers with strong SQL; ₹12–20 LPA at 3–5 years
- GCCs and BFSI (banks, fintech, insurance): Among the best payers for analysts; ₹10–20 LPA at 3–5 years

What a data analyst does all day
Most of the job is answering business questions with data: why did sales drop in the South region, which campaign brought the best customers, where are users dropping off in the app. In practice that means:
- Writing SQL queries to pull and clean data
- Building and maintaining dashboards in Power BI, Tableau or Looker
- Doing quick analysis in Excel or Python
- Presenting findings to managers who don't have time for the details
If you enjoy that, the path continues to senior analyst, analytics manager, or a move into data science or data engineering, both of which pay more.
Skills that push your salary up
Recruiters screen data analyst resumes for a small set of skills. Getting these right is what moves you from the bottom of the fresher range to the top:
- SQL: joins, window functions, CTEs. It is tested in nearly every interview. Practise with our advanced SQL interview questions.
- Power BI or Tableau: one done well beats both done badly.
- Python (pandas) for analysis that outgrows Excel.
- Statistics basics: averages vs medians, significance, A/B testing.
- AI-assisted analysis: using AI tools to speed up queries and summaries is now a visible premium in job descriptions.
- Domain knowledge: finance, e-commerce or healthcare analysts with domain depth earn more.
CTC vs in-hand: what you actually take home
Offer letters quote CTC, but your bank account sees something smaller. Take a data analyst offer of ₹7 LPA with no variable pay. If PF is calculated on a basic of 50% of CTC, your monthly in-hand is roughly ₹51,000. If your company caps PF at ₹1,800 a month (many do), it is closer to ₹54,500.
Under the new tax regime, salaried people with taxable income up to ₹12.75 lakh (after the ₹75,000 standard deduction) pay no income tax, so at this level PF and professional tax are the main deductions. Variable pay, insurance and gratuity can lower the monthly number further. Our guide on CTC vs in-hand salary walks through a full payslip.
How to get a better data analyst offer
- Build a portfolio, not just certificates. Two or three projects with real public datasets and a clear business question.
- Target BFSI, product companies and GCCs, not just services companies.
- Switch at the right time. Your first switch after 18–24 months is usually your biggest percentage jump.
- Negotiate on CTC breakdown, not just the headline number. Check the fixed vs variable split.

How we put these numbers together
Figures are approximate annual CTC in Indian rupees (LPA = lakh per annum) as of October 2026. We combined employee-reported salaries from Glassdoor India with 2025–26 hiring data published by Instahyre and Hyring, and cross-checked them against published industry salary guides. Where sources disagreed, we show a range instead of one number. Actual offers depend on the company, your interview performance and how well you negotiate.
